Susan Cushing was the oldest of three sisters, who got involved in the case of the cardboard box. Her brother-in-law Jim Browser had in jealoucy killed his wife, Susan's youngest sister, Mary and her lover Alec Fairbairn and cut of an ear form each of them. He had meant to send them to the third and second-eldste sister, Sarah, who used to lived with Susan, because she was the cause of the tragedy, but unaware that Sarah had moved to another place after they had cut off contact, the box, which was only addressed to 'S. Cushing' ended with Susan, who was disturbed by it and thought it was an evil joke. It's most likely she was later informed of the truth, but it's not known how she took it.
