Sherlock Holmes and the Eminent Thespian is a book by Val Andrews and was written in 1988.

Summary

Although he succeeded to the throne in January, 1901, Edward VII was not crowned until June the following year. Why the delay? The Crown Jewels had been stolen from the Tower of London! Naturally, Scotland Yard consulted Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson on this matter and the trail led them from the streets of London's East End through a Sussex village fair and the jewel shops of Hatton Garden to the stage of the Lyceum Theatre, The Strand, where the American actor, William Gillette, was performing as Sherlock Holmes. The Holmes techniques are applied to Inspector Lestrade's Skye terrier, to Watson's aunt in Hertford and to the jewel robbery itself, while Watson tries his hand at solving a series of petty crimes alone.
