Martin John Christopher Freeman is the English actor who plays Dr. John Watson in Sherlock. In 2011 he won a BAFTA TV for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sherlock^[1].

He is best known for his roles as John in Love Actually^[2], Tim Canterbury in the BBC's Golden Globe-winning comedy The Office^[3], Arthur Dent in the film adaptation of Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy^[4], and Mr. Madden in Nativity!^[5].

Martin stars as Bilbo Baggins - the lead role in Peter Jackson's two-part adaptation of The Hobbit^[6] - with Benedict Cumberbatch, who will lend his voice to both Smaug the Dragon and the Necromancer^[7].
