Ian Richardson (1934 - 2007) was the actor who portrayed Joseph Bell in the BBC's mini-series, Murder Rooms. Before this, he played Sherlock Holmes, in the 1983 TV movies The Hound of the Baskervilles and The Sign of Four.
Richardson is well known for his role in the 1990 BBC version of Michael Dobbs' House of Cards, which has been adapted for American audiences in the 2013 series of the same name featuring Kevin Spacey. He reprised the character of Francis Urquhart in the sequels To Play the King and The Final Cut. One of his last roles was as the Narrator and voice of Death for the live-action version of Terry Pratchett's Hogfather.
