Sir Ian Murray McKellen is the actor who portrays a 93 year old Sherlock Holmes in Mr Holmes.
McKellen is a prolific theatre, television, and film actor, and is probably best known in film for his roles as Gandalf in The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit trilogies, and as Magneto in the X-Men film series. He is in real life close friends with Patrick Stewart and a high profile gay figure in the entertainment industry.
