St Paul's Cathedral is an Anglican cathedral and the seat of the Bishop of London. The present church, designed by Sir Christopher Wren, was completed in 1708 and built on the site of the original cathedral, which was destroyed in the Great Fire of 1666. The church has since become one of the most famous sights in London and is recognised as one of Wren's greatest architectural achievements.

Sherlock Holmes (2009 film)[]

The crypts under the church were the site of Lord Henry Blackwood's (known as the Catacomb Killer) sixth attempted ritual murder: however, he was stopped by the combined efforts of Sherlock Holmes, John Watson, and Inspector Lestrade.

Trivia[]

  • While the façade and opening staircase scene in Sherlock Holmes were filmed at St Paul's, the confrontation in the crypt was actually filmed in the church of St Bartholomew-the-Great, about a half-mile north.
