"There's all sorts of gossip in the press about you. Sooner or later, you're going to need someone on your side. Someone to set the record straight."
―Kitty Riley [src]

Kitty Riley is an investigative journalist who appeared in the "The Reichenbach Fall".

Riley tries to get her first big scoop by interviewing Sherlock Holmes. She approaches him to test his prowess at first, and then she leaves her card with him; however, Sherlock leaves her with three words: "You repel me."

Later on, she is tricked by Jim Moriarty, who was pretending to be an actor that was hired by Sherlock to play a criminal mastermind. She fully believes his act and publishes her first big scoop using the information he provided. However, her scoop was proven to be false when police demonstrated conclusively that Richard Brook had really been an alias of Jim Moriarty, who had manipulated everyone in an attempt to ruin Sherlock. As a result, she was likely discredited for writing and publishing a false story.

Trivia[]

  • While her name is spelled 'Riley' in the show and newspapers, it is spelled 'Reilly' (the more traditionally Irish form) in the casebook, and the newspapers featured in the casebook.
