Sherlock Holmes: The Case of the Silver Earring (also known as Secret of the Silver Earring) is the second instalment of Frogwares' long-running Adventures of Sherlock Holmes game series. Released in 2004 to PC, it marks a shift in the company's development of the Holmes property. It was later ported to the Nintendo Wii in 2011.

Story[]

Receiving an invitation (from Lord Cavendish-Smith), Sherlock Holmes and Dr John Watson attend a party in honour Lavinia Bromsby, daughter of wealthy industrialist (and party host) Sir Melvyn Bromsby. Things then take a sharp turn when, in the midst of a speech, Sir Melvyn is shot by some unseen perpetrator hidden in the room.

All suspicion (and initial evidence) points to Lavinia, the daughter. Determined to get to the bottom of this, Sherlock Holmes takes the case. But what seems to be a simple murder will take the pair through the long and complicated history of Sir Bromsby's estate.

Gameplay[]

In sharp contrast to the previous entry, Silver Earring is done completely in third-person perspective, in the style of classic "point-and-click" interface.

Notes[]

  • Hermann Grimble, Melvyn's friend and minority shareholder of Bromsby's business is mentioned again in 2008's "Sherlock Holmes versus Arsène Lupin" (aka: Sherlock Holmes: Nemesis) when Holmes discovers (on a side quest) that a thug has stolen some items from Grimble's house.
