Fate/Grand Order is a 2015 online mobile RPG for iOS and Android by Japanese company Type-Moon that is part of the popular Fate/Stay night franchise of visual novels, anime and video games. It is also the first installment in the franchise to feature Sherlockian characters, including Holmes himself.

Summary Edit

As with other Fate/Stay night works, the plot of Fate/Grand Order revolves around the conflict over the Holy Grail, which in the Fate/Stay night universe occurs in various times and places throughout history. Masters – including the player's character – and their Servants fight for control of the Grail and the power it wields. Along the way, Masters will encounter Servants who are legendary in literature, history, mythology or religion as both enemies and allies.

Holmes is first mentioned during a Holy Grail War set in London in 1888 as an information gatherer for the Mage's Association and Chaldea – the organization that the player is part of. He is also mentioned as having been given a case by Sir Charles Babbage, who is himself a Caster-class Servant. He then appears for the first time in Camelot in 1273 and elects not to join Chaldea but instead assist the player's allies on his own. Moriarty, meanwhile, is able to be summoned by the player as a Servant.

An accompanying Holmes story was also published by Type-Moon entitled A Study in the Color of Ravens' Feathers. Written in a manner similar to that of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and with Dr. Watson as the narrator, it chronicles Holmes' and Watson's investigation into Dr. Jekyll's death.
