Colin Jeavons is a British actor who portrayed Inspector Lestrade in the Granada Television series of Sherlock Holmes. His version of Lestrade appeared in six different episodes of the series, aired from 1985 to 1992.


Personal life and career

A Welsh-born actor (Newport, Monmouthshire) of English parents from the Black Country, Jeavons has been active in threatre and television acting for decades.

Some of his other notable television appearances include The Life and Death of Sir John Falstaff, Epitaph for a Spy, Bleak House (1950s BBC adaptation), David Copperfield, Doctor Who, The Avengers, Detective, The French Lieutenant's Woman, The Old Curiosity Shop, Great Expectations (1981 miniseries), Jane Eyre (1983 miniseries), House of Cards and its sequel To Play the King, and The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles. He retired from television acting after 1993.

Before playing inspector Lestrade, Jeavons also portrayed professor Moriarty in the short-lived 1983 children's series The Baker Street Boys (which focused on the Baker Street Irregulars).
