Charles Augustus Milverton was a blackmailer featured in The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton.
He is described as "the king of the blackmailers" and causes Sherlock Holmes more revulsion than any of the murders in his career. One night, Holmes and John Watson break into Milverton's home to destroy the material he uses for blackmail. Holmes and Watson find the material in a safe in Milverton's study but plans do not go their way when Milverton wakes up. The two quickly hide behind a curtain and as Milverton enters so does one of his maidservants. The woman ends up being a victim of Milverton and reveals a pistol. The woman who is avenging the death of her husband kills Milverton.
